investing in our own energy efficiency

As part of our ongoing commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, Maclin Electric took part in East Lothian Council’s Net Zero Cohort programme, which began with a full carbon footprint assessment of the business. The findings gave us a clear baseline and showed where we could make the most immediate difference.

We were subsequently awarded £5,000 through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, administered by East Lothian Council, towards a package of improvements at our Musselburgh premises:

• LED lighting throughout the office, controlled by presence detection so lights run only where and when they’re needed
• An instant boiling water tap replacing the office kettle, heating only the water actually used
• Thermal oil filled heaters, giving better heat retention and individual temperature control in each area

All of the work was carried out by our own approved electricians. These are the same systems we design and install for our customers every day, so our premises now serve as a working demonstration of what a relatively modest retrofit can achieve.

The improvements will reduce our operational energy use and running costs and contribute towards local and national net zero ambitions. As a 100% employee-owned business, the benefit of those savings is shared across everyone at Maclin.
